The summer isn’t over yet. Before your kids head back to school, there is still time for a few more adventures. Here are some of the best outdoor family-friendly activities in Tacoma and the surrounding area.
Go to a concert
Every year, we get to enjoy some fantastic music from the Summer Sounds @ Skansie series. Every Tuesday night through Aug. 13, head to the park and enjoy a free concert. On Aug. 6, the Funaddicts will perform and Nate Botsford will finish up the series on Aug. 13. Keep in mind, you cannot set up chairs or blankets before 3 p.m. The music starts at 6:30 p.m.
Visit the zoo
The Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium recently added two new interactive exhibits. After spending some time in the hot sun watching the animals, visit the aquarium side. The new Sting Ray Cove allows visitors to touch some of the stingrays in the 1,000-gallon tank. You can also get up close and personal with the 17 sharks in the aquarium with Eye-to-Eye Shark Dives. These dives are available to anyone 8 years of age and older and you don’t need any diving experience.
Get a great view
For something a little more low-key, plan a visit to the Port of Tacoma observation deck. Climb the three flights of stairs for a great view of the port. It is free and it’s open 24 hours a day.
